Unsung Part Deux

What made you choose your particular unsung hero?
- I really enjoy the idea of glorified something that is denounced generally. I love how mainstream Banky is within the art community. Overall, I really enjoy his artistry and the voice that he puts into all of his work.

Did you learn anything new about the person that you chose?
- I learned about this project that Banksy did one time where he goes into muesuems and puts his own art over pieces that already were in the museum. I thought that this took guerrilla art to a whole new level.

Do you think that your design clearly and accurately represented your hero?
-Yes, I used his images and quotes in my own design.

Would you do anything different?
- I would use different colors and have a wider color palette.

What traditional and technological art-making techniques did you use in your design?
- Traditionally, I used spray painting and stencils. In terms of technology, I designed my images in Photoshop and created a virtual graffiti wall, using Notepad++ , HTML, and a scanner.

Unsung

- Banksy- A graffiti artist who true identity is still unconfirmed. I think he is a unsung hero because he is making graffiti a glorified art form.

-Henry "Box" Brown - a slave who "mailed himself to freedom".

-Claude McKay - fiery Jamaican poet who gained fame with his protest poem, "If We Must Die"

-Adam Bouska - The NOH8 Campaign is a photographic silent protest created by celebrity photographer Adam Bouska in direct response to the passage of Proposition 8. Photos feature subjects with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by Prop 8 and similar legislation around the world, with "NOH8" painted on one cheek in protest.

-Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta - Partnered up with the Service Member's Legal Defense Network to urge the younger generation to play a more prominent role in the repeal of the Don't Ask, Dont Tell law enacted in 1993. P.S. Its Lady Gaga.

-Process: I want to do stencils and spray paint of an image or something that relates to my hero. Then I want to scan the image and put it on a really long webpage (horizontally) that has a brick background to create the illusion of a graffiti wall. I need a scanner and thin cardboard and spray paint.

-Final Person: Bansky

-Working alone

+The Urban Gent
- This is a fashion/style/lifestyle blog for men. First off, I really the content of the blog which I was reading before they changed the site's layout. The new layout has a really subtle brick background which hasn't change in forever. The site's upgrade included a really nice and functional navigation bar which enhances the effectiveness. I also like that it has words even though it could serve as a picture blog.

+ The Dandy Project
- This is a fashion DIY website. It is somewhat like the men's version of P.S. I Made This. I love how the page utilizes a really basic background since most of the images on the blog are huge and colorful. It really makes the viewer focus on the images. Even the text is small and plays a backseat to the images. The content is cool because it is like the urban gent, only it is more handmade and unique.

+ Fuck Yeah Street Ligths
- This is a tumblr site. It is all pictures with of streetlights, which is just ridiculous but cool. There are no words, only images. I like the constant stream of images and the simplistic concept of the all tiled wood borders. The content is interesting because these are all found images as well.

+ WickedCloth.es
- This is a clothing design site. It showcases unique accessories and t-shirt designs. I really like the font header they use. It is playful and serious. The shirt designs are really my favorite. The site is effect basically because of its mass amount of content.

+Hypebeast Blogs
- This is a collection of blogs all with different authors, but they all have the same layout. They are primarily images which is nice. Most of the blogs take a lot of pride in the photography they post. In addition, some offer a lot of music. The layouts are really simple and effective - with white and gray backgrounds. One of the best best blogs of the collection is Street Etiquette (http://streetetiquette.com), which has a really old-fashioned approach to clothing, while is reflected in its Ivy style layout.
